Communication Technologies and Education in EFL.
Communication Technologies and Education in EFL.
Teachers depend vigorously on a varied spectrum of materials to assist
their teaching process and their student's’ learning process. Tomlinson (1998)
point out the word materials as anything which is done
by writers, teachers, or learners to provide sources of language input, and to
exploit those resources in ways which maximize the likelihood of intake. In
simple words, the supplying of information about and/or experience of the
language in ways designed to promote language learning.
One teacher’s duty is to promote the benefits and costs of designing
their own teaching materials and whether it is worth the amount of time and
effort they plan to invest on them. A good Do It Yourself (DIY)
teacher with resources, time, and the confidence and creativity to assemble
those resources into a clear and coherent language program is probably about as
good as it gets for the average language learner. Nowadays, is widely known
that the implementation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)
in English as a Foreign Language Teaching (EFLT)
is one of the best option for DIY teachers, since these have a very effective
impact on students’ learning process.
It must be recognized that the expansion of mass media and digital
technologies enhances the production, circulation, storage and reception of
information and messages at large distances and scales. However, the
inequalities in the way people access or reach that information and knowledge,
increase existing economic, social, and cultural differences. These differences
are also known as Digital Gap.
An example of an ICT activity that
teachers can use in their lessons, and that we also applied it on our personal
experiences is Kahoot app (Picture N°1) where students compete to get the
higher punctuation recurring to their previous knowledge.

To conclude, communication technology is a necessary tool for the
development of teaching and learning in schools since it is immersed in our
society and it brings many benefits to the new generation students as to their
relationship with teachers and schools.
